Trips Outside London

If you’ve been to London before or cities aren’t really your thing, consider staying outside London! Most of these places are best if you rent a car, but you can also get close by with trains and then taxi or hire a driver for the day if you need one.

Richmond

Just outside of London but still accessible via trains, this is a beautiful single-day escape. Head to the White Cross and then walk along the river, wander around the shops on the high street, go to Richmond Park, or visit The Prince’s Head where Ted Lasso was filmed.

Bath

Gorgeous Roman baths in a college town. It’s a great day trip from London or else a brief overnight stay. Check out the Roman Baths for the touristy bit and Thermae Spa for a massage and rooftop pool.

Surrey

We’ve enjoyed exploring our new home in Surrey, with all its small towns and hidden gems.

Shere: Where they filmed The Holiday – adorable shops, cafes and pubs.

Thorpe Park: The most famous amusement park in England. Don’t expect Cedar Point, but enjoy yourself all the same!

Kid-friendly options

Coworth Park: 20 minutes from our house and known to be very kid friendly, without feeling “too kid friendly”. It’s also a lovely spa with great restaurants and bars on site.

Virginia Water Park: If you’re interested in a 2-ish hour walk around a lake. With a massive playground and gardens, it’s perfect for little ones!

Kelly-approved hotel spas

Pennyhill Park (where our photo on the home page was taken!): Great spa, lovely big rooms.

Sopwell House: Located in St Albans, a commuter town that has Ancient Roman ruins!
