Where to Stay in London

London is huge. It’s tempting to stay in the “cute areas” of London, but it’s most practical to stay somewhere in the heart where there’s good transportation options.

My recommendation: Find a few things you know you definitely want to do, and then look at where they’re at on the map. If they’re a bit all over the place, find somewhere central (near Soho or Covent Garden). Central is almost always best as transportation is more straightforward. If you want to go a little further west, check out Marylebone or Kensington. If you want a bit more east or northeast, go for Shoreditch or Angel.

Unless you’re booking for a big group of people, I’d probably avoid Airbnb or VRBO. Smaller rental properties tend to change hands really quickly and are less reliable. Instead, go for hotels, but don’t be surprised that they’re smaller than US ones!
