Pubs
Pubs are the best thing about London, especially in the summer. There are 3,620 pubs in London. They’re on every corner. They’re all good. Just pop into one and have a drink!
Don’t worry, most beers you’ll order will be cold. Lagers are the closest you’ll get to “light” beer, though Coors seems to be making its way into lots of pubs if you’re looking for a taste of the US. “Neck Oil” is one of the most popular draft beers, sort of like a light IPA. But if you want to get more British, “real ales” are the lukewarm beers pulled from casks in the cellar.
The Devonshire: Known for the best Guinness pour in all of London. It will be packed!
Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese: One of the oldest pubs in London, with many floors and low ceilings. An enjoyable piece of history.
The Lamb & Flag Covent Garden: Beautiful hidden spot if you’re around Covent Garden!
Churchill Arms: Ridiculously touristy but so so fun. Make sure you look up at the ceiling…
Also… go to a Wetherspoons. There’s no way to describe a Spoons, you just have to experience it. It’s carpeted floors and £3 pints and an old man who’s been sitting there since they opened at 11 am. You can’t swing a dead cat in London without hitting a Wetherspoons, so just search on “Wetherspoons” on Google Maps.
Cocktail Bars
There are loads of great cocktail bars across London, and you really can’t go wrong. Make sure to order a gin and tonic on behalf of all the English folk – ask for them to serve it in a goblet glass!
Bar Termini: The most important spot – where Julian and Kelly had their first date!
Disrepute: Basement bar with great cocktails. Good for an escape from the sun.
Mr Fogg’s (multiple locations): Mr Fogg’s is a small chain with fantastic cocktails. Every location has a different theme / specialty. Kelly’s favourite is Pawnbrokers, where you’re taken on an exploration of drinks from around the world.
The Ned London: On a big night, you might get turned down if you’re not at least a little dressed up. Just ask if you can sit at the bar for a cocktail.
Ain’t Nothin’ But Blues Bar: If you want to go back to the US so badly you can’t take it anymore, head here for a drink.
Dean Street Townhouse: Great cocktails, fancy-but-not-too-fancy environment.
